- About Ston
Ston is located on the isthmus connecting Pelješac to the mainland. The traces of population date back to ancient times. The settlement was founded and fortified by Dubrovnik in the 14th century. The Great Wall with the length of about 5.5 km with 40 towers and 7 watchtowers stretches from the rectangular shaped fortress walls, which are facing both the sea and the mainland. The walls facing the mainland side were built from 1336 to 1347 and the ones facing the seaside in 1358. The port gate with a Romanesque statue of St. Blaise was built within the wall. The Mali Ston port was built following the example of the Dubrovnik port. The church of St. Anthony from the 14th century was built in the town centre. The Mali Ston Bay is known for its production of shells, oysters and mussels, and its surroundings for the production of famous wines, especially Postup and Dingač.
