Andrea Antico Square
Andrea Antico Square
The historical Andrea Antico Square represents the main square of the town of Motovun. Almost on each side of the square, there are public and sacred historical buildings and sites that describe the interesting history of the city. On the main square, you can find the Parish Church of St. Stephen which was built in the 17th century in the spirit of Mannerism, and a bell tower next to it. On the south side of the church, you can see a great Renaissance palace that was once owned by the Polesini family, but unfortunately its remains were not preserved; the building was turned into a hotel called Kaštel. A cistern that provided citizens with water through two wells is found under the square. There is a well in the northern part of the square that dates back to the 15th century, and one below the castle, which is the oldest well in Motovun.
