Arsenal is a huge port warehouse that was originally built in the 16th century, and then upgraded in 1752 by the providur Jerome Mario Balbi (there is even an old plate with an inscription on the facade of the building as a proof). In the Venetian period, this warehouse had a strategic role in helping the survival and dominance of Venice – queen of the sea at the time. It was once used to produce weapons, ropes and build ships, whereas today serves as a multifunctional object for various occasions. Locals also call it ‘town’s indoor square’.
