Cathedral St. Mary
Cathedral of Blessed Virgin Mary Assumption
The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a monumental sacral building built in Gothic style. This cathedral has a sacristy with a slender cross – ribbed vault with three polygonal apses. The cathedral has been dedicated to the Virgin Mary, i.e. Virgin Mary’s Assumption ever since it was built. The Cathedral was enriched with valuable inventory during the 17th century and later. In the cathedral you can see the Baroque altar and pulpit by sculptor Mihael Cusse. The main altar features the painting of the Assumption, which was purchased by Bishop Aleksandar Alagović. Archbishop Juraj Haulik sold that picture to a church in Predgrađe and had built a neo-Gothic altar. In 1855 he had bought a large organ.
