Church and cemetery of Saint Martin
The church of Saint Martin dates from the 15th century, and was mentioned for the first time in 1450. It is located on the today’s graveyard and has many times been rebuilt. Glagolitic priests who often had the task to write everything down, as well as the wills and contracts of the citizens, and also the books of marriages, Christening and deaths served in the church. Mali Lošinj was declared a district in 1663 and the church of St. Martin became the district church next to which was built a bell tower. The graveyard is the final resting place of many captains, merchants and sailors, and behind the church there are old handwritten tombstones.
