Church of St. Mary and water source
Funtana was named after the sources of potable water, which are located close to the sea, and the water is at the level of the sea surface. Sources of potable water are so called because of their drinking water springs that have been used until recently by residents of Poreč and residents of the inner regions of Istria. They are situated along the main road. In history, these sources supplied water to the luxurious Roman villas in Zelena Laguna (Green Lagoon) via underground tunnels. Beside the villas, these sources supplied water to ships which sailed along the western coast of Istria. Women also used the separate source in Funtana to wash clothes so the source was named Perila (Laundry). Also you can see the remains of the church of St. Mary of Mercy.
