Church of St. Ignatius
The Jesuit church of St. Ignatius was built thanks to the legacy of Marin Gundulić, a Jesuit from Dubrovnik. Iganzio Pozzo, a renowned Jesuit architect and painter, was called to the city in 1699. The construction of the church was completed in 1725. The church was opened four years later. At the right angle to the St. Ignatius church frontispiece, leans the Jesuit College building (Collegium Ragusinum) constructed according to the designs of Ranjina and Canali. This college was built due to the dissatisfaction with the Italian teachers. In 1658, Beccadelli, former head of the Dubrovnik diocese, opened a Jesuit College. During the Dubrovnik Summer Festival the directors are often impressed by this part of the city because it is the most beautiful baroque corner of Dubrovnik, and it is also seen by many as the most beautiful in the whole of Dalmatia.
