Church of St. John
The Church of St. John the Baptist
In the 13th century, near the main city square, the Benedictines had a single-nave church built, which is presumed to be the work of master Radovan. According to archaeological research, it was built on the foundations of an early Christian church. This medieval church belonged to the male Benedictine monastery. Located in the eastern part of town near the city walls, it was significantly damaged during the attack of the Saracens. Until the 20th century, south of the church and monastery of St. John the Baptist had been a set of Episcopal buildings, which was removed and replaced by the courthouse.
