During your stay in Buje make sure to visit the parish church, which is dedicated to the city’s patron saint, St. Servul. In its immediate vicinity there is also the bell tower of St. Servul from which, if the sky is clear, you see four countries – Italy, Austria, Croatia and Slovenia. This church is one of the most important monuments of late baroque on the Istrian peninsula. It was built in the 18th century on the foundations of an old Romanesque-Gothic church dating back to the 13th century. At the church entrance you will be amazed to see a richly decorated portal, which is definitely among the most beautiful ones in Istria. Inside the church you can also see an organ from the 18th century, which was built by the famous Gaetano Callido. You definitely shouldn’t miss seeing the statues of St. Servul and St. Sebastian, which are considered real masterpieces.
