Church of Virgin Mary
The church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built between 1722 and 1737 with the help of Valpovo’s nobleman Baron Petar Antun Hilleprand of Prandau. The church was built in the baroque style and its interior is adorned with baroque – classicist inventory: altars, paintings, stained glass windows, statues, pulpit and organ. The organ is from 1805 and it was made by the organ master Caspar Fischer in Apatin. Today it is the only almost entirely preserved organ in Croatia which can still achieve a genuine classical sound. On the main altar there is a Baroque painting from 1737 depicting Immaculate Mary surrounded by angels and the Holy Trinity, while the other two altars are dedicated to St. John the Baptist and St. Joseph.
