Church St. Catherine
Church and Monastery of St. Catherine
The Dominican church and monastery of St. Catherine were built on the site of the Romanesque church from the 5th or 6th century, which was demolished in the Candian war in the seventies of the 17th century. After the end of the war, the church and monastery were rebuilt in Baroque style. In the early thirties of the 20th century, some changes were made and the church got its current appearance. During the Allied bombing in 1944 the monastery was partly damaged. The church interior is rich with Baroque altars and paintings by Sebastian DeVito and Matija Ponzoni-Pončun.
