The Church of St. James
In the oldest part of Vodnjan, or in the old town, there is a Church of St. James, and it is claimed that its first version was built between the 11th and 13th centuries. Today, it represents a simple building with no decoration on the front. This church is interesting because it has two unusual altar, which are probably a symbol of Jesus, God and Man. The Church of St. James has a special historical significance, and that is that the wise people of Vodnjan drafted a statute that was approved by Venice in 1492, and was valid for 390 years until the fall of Venice, i.e. until the introduction of the new legislation in 1815.
