Church St. Nicholas
The Church and the Bell tower of St. Nicholas
The Latin inscription on the main facade of the church testifies to the fact that the church was built in 1266, and upgraded during the 15th and 18th centuries. Next to the church, there is a 45 meters high bell tower built in 1705. In the past, the Church of St. Nicholas was the superior to the parishes belonging to the Poreč Diocese, i.e. it possessed the praepositus status. In the church one can see the Gothic net vault of the presbytery with beautiful late Gothic frescoes dating from 1460 and the large organ made in 1780 by Gaetano Callido. Later, the same vault was used in other churches, and can also be found in the Franciscan monastery. The Gothic architecture in Istria came from the north and northwest, which is why Pazin later became a center for spreading of such shrines in Istria.
