Pula’s market was built in 1902 and was officially opened on 18 October 1903. Its iron structure made it into a true construction miracle, and it is considered the most beautiful market in Croatia. At that time, there were 86 stands, 12 of which belonged to butchers, and the rest of them sold fruit and vegetables. After the war, in 1997, the market was restored and now has 60 retail stands, seven restaurants and 13 food stores. The open area contains 137 tables for selling fruit and vegetables, and whole market embellished red parasols and chestnut trees from 1903. In the market cultural events are sometimes held, and the market also represents a gathering place for people who wish to both shop and socialize.
