The City Museum is located in the old town of Cres. The museum was founded in the early 20th century, but it was only from 1973 that it has been located in the Arsan palace, which was built in the early 16th century. The museum has Gothic and Renaissance architectural elements. The museum has an archaeological collection with numerous remains from this area of the island, from the prehistoric period until the Middle Ages. In addition, the collection contains numerous items, such as fishing and agricultural tools, folk costumes, paintings, weapons, liturgical accessories in the period from the 18th to the 20th century, coats of arms of the island of Cres and books. Particularly interesting is the coin collection containing coins dating from the 2nd and the 20th century.
