Belišće was named after the Belistje plain, which extends along the right bank of the Drava River. That is where the well-known Guttman family company built the sawmill. They are also responsible for the further development of Belišće. Several other buildings were built near it, including residential houses, an elementary school, a post office, fire department, an electric network and the like. Also, it was then that the railway station and forest-industrial tracks were built. In the early 20th century, precisely in 1905, the most significant building of Belišće was built. It is the monumental palace of the Gutmann family which is one of the greatest architectural achievements of the area.
