Erdut was a medieval fortified feudal town, then the seat of a feudal estate, and today it is a village on the eastern slopes of the Dalj Mountain along the coast of the blue Danube. It is located 46 kilometres from Osijek, which is the centre of the Osijek-Baranja County. The village of Erdut administratively belongs to the eponymous municipality, which is part of the Osijek-Baranja County. The settlement was first mentioned in 1335 under the Hungarian name Erdöd meaning “forest road”. Erdut is known as the viticultural region – it has close to 500ha of vineyards – and the local winery that produces famous wines.
