Croatian national theatre
The building of the Croatian National Theatre in Zadar is located on a site of 19th century Teatro Nobile, the most important opera house in Dalmatia. The first professional theater in the history of Zadar was formed when theater company arrived in the early November of 1944. On the occasion of ‘the week of culture’, the theater officially opened its doors on March 27, 1945. The first professional performance staged here was ‘Uncle Maroje’, the work of a famous Croatian playwright Marin Držić. The building and the hall with 650 seats have been reconstructed in 1968.
