- Dalmatian Festival
Festival of the Dalmatian klapa
The festival takes place annually ever since 1967. At the Festival of the Dalmatian klapa both traditional and newly composed songs are performed. In 1968 the festival gained a competitive character. So far over 1,250 authentic and about 500 new songs have been performed by about 470 klapas with over 4,000 performers at the festival. The best klapas are awarded the Gold, Silver and Bronze shield with the Omiš coat of arms. The first final evening of female klapas was held in 1991. Until then, female klapas used to compete along with the male klapas. Numerous tourists and Omiš-lovers visit the Festival in July.
