If you visit the main city market Dolac, which is called “the belly of Zagreb”, you will be amazed by the colours and smells, but above all by the vibrancy and positive atmosphere. Dolac is the most visited and the best known farmer’s market in Zagreb. It was built in the early 20th century. It was the City’s decision to demolish the houses and old city walls in Dolac in 1930 in order to build the market on three floors, which is a combination of a traditional open market with stalls (for fruits and vegetables) and a sheltered market below (for meat and fish). Dolac’s current location was suggested by architect Viktor Kovačić. It is located only a few dozen meters away from the main city square, Ban Jelačić Square, with which it is connected with Splavnica Street where you can buy flowers. Here you can find several restaurants as well. The Dolac Market is one of the must-see tourist attractions in Zagreb.
