- European Avenue street
European Avenue street
The European Avenue is adorned with classicist buildings and palaces. Art Nouveau (Secession) is an international philosophy and style of art, architecture and applied art – especially the decorative arts – that was most popular during the 19th century. What characterizes the Art Nouveau architecture is the ornamentation of buildings and their facades. There are elements of Hungarian and Viennese Secession on the facades of palaces in the European Avenue. Most of the palaces of the European Avenue are built in the Viennese Secession style, while the Post Palace was built in the Hungarian Secession style. The Museum of Fine Arts is located in the European Avenue. There the visitors can see the works of great painters and sculptors, especially the beautiful landscapes of Slavonia and Baranja, and portraits of prominent families of the 18th and 19th century.
