Fire Fighting Museum
The Museum of Karlovac Firefighting was opened in 2009. The museum houses about a thousand items which speak about the history and social life in the late 19th and early 20th century. Among the many examples, fire pumps dating back to the 19th century, uniforms, helmets and documents that reflect the history of fire fighting in the town of Karlovac stand out in particularly. Otherwise, the Volunteer Fire Department in Karlovac was founded in 1871 by the former Mayor Ivan Simunić. The beginnings of firefighting date back to the Roman era.
