Fort of St. John
Fort of St. John
The quadrangular tower of Mule was built in 1346 and is the first of its sort in Dubrovnik. It played a major role in the defence of the city port. The present fort of St. John was built in the 16th century. The side toward the sea is round and the lower part of the wall is inclined, while the part facing the port has flat vertical walls. Today the large interior of the St John Fortress houses the Aquarium (on the ground floor) and the Maritime Museum (on the first and second floor). Through the fort you can also enter the City Walls.
