The foundation of the park in Donji Miholjac is linked to the Hilleprand von Prandau and Count Mailath families. Although the first plan of the park is not preserved, the historical evidence suggest that it was founded in 1818. Gustav Prandau is credited with having arranged the park to its present appearance – he moved the plant nursery to Donji Miholjac in search of a more favorable and milder climate. Also, he was responsible for the development of deutro-production, the construction of greenhouses and hot beds. He was in charge of the park until 1834. It should be noted that the plant nursery of the Prandau family was one of the leading in the Empire, and that their plant material is exported to almost all countries. Today, the park is protected in its historical size of 16ha, and its base has remained preserved.
