Holy Salvation Church
Church of the Holy Salvation
After the terrible earthquake in 1520, the Senate of Dubrovnik decided to build a church in gratitude for the salvation of the city. The votive church of the Holy Salvation was built between 1520 and 1528 by Petar Andrijić according to his own design. In the earthquake in 1667 the church sustained no damage. Legend has it that the noblewomen of Dubrovnik partook in carrying timber and stone for the church’s construction with great fervor. You can find this church between the Franciscan Monastery and the City Walls. It is where, in the summer time, a number of Dubrovnik’s artists present their works. Here you can also hear the sounds of chamber ensembles.
