The Lighthouse Savudrija
The oldest lighthouse whose light was secured by gas is located in the westernmost point of Croatia, in Savudrija. The construction of the lighthouse began in March 1817 under the auspices of the Austrian Emperor Francis I, while the architecture plan was designed by Pietro Nobile. The lighthouse proudly rose as much as 36 meters in April 1818 and has, since that time, faithfully carried out its task. Among many visitors, but also among the locals, the lighthouse has always caused numerous ovations, to the extent that in the past, the lighthouse workers carried a rifle on them to prevent the people from climbing the lighthouse. Unlike the situation in the past, when the announcement of the arrival of the ship was done with the help of flags, today the process is completely automated.
