Fulfinum-Mirine archaeological site
The bay Sepen is an important location for lovers of the history of architecture. Here you can find a valuable archaeological site of Omišalj. On the fertile plains, rights along the coast are the remains of the ancient Roman city Fulfinum. The city was founded at the beginning of the 1st century, at the time of the dissolution of the Roman Empire. It is a military settlement which served as a shelter to Roman war veterans. Although the research and excavation of the city is not nearly over, it is possible to say that Fulfinum was a highly developed city. There are no exact data about when Fulfinum was abandoned. Today, the remains of Fulfinum are hardly noticeable because they are still mostly buried underground, and are partly hidden in the sea, which was two meters lower than today.
