North City Gate
North City Gate
The northern city gate or porta terrae fermae is located on the north side of town. Built around 1660, during the reign of providur Antonio Bernardo. The gate used to connect the city to the mainland via small stone bridge. The gate got its current appearance in 1763 thanks to the architect Ignacije Macanović, who had the Gothic statue of St. John of Trogir, Trogir’s patron saint, placed on top of the gate. In addition to the statue, the doors are adorned with the Venetian lion and the coat of arms of providur Bernard.
