Odescalchi Castle and the city museum
The Odescalchi castle is situated in the medieval city core, which faithfully defended the city during the Turkish invasion. The castle was built from the palace that belonged to the king of Ilok, Nikola Ilok who lived there in the 15th century. After the liberation of Ilok from the Turkish rule, the castle was donated to Pope Odescalchi. His successors built a baroque classical castle there. In the castle there is the Museum of Ilok where you can explore the entire history of this small town, from the Middle Ages, through the struggle with the Turks and World War II, to the Homeland war.
