Serbian Orthodox Church of the Holy Annunciation (Dubrovnik)
The Serbian Orthodox Church of the Holy Annunciation was built in 1877 inside the Walls of Dubrovnik in the Old Town. Given that Catholicism was the official religion in the Republic of Dubrovnik, Muslims and Orthodox Christians were not allowed to spend the night inside the city walls. The first Orthodox priest was allowed to stay inside the walls in 1804. The first Orthodox Church was an Orthodox house of worship and cemetery at Boninovo located close to the Serbian Orthodox Church of the Holy Annunciation. On the right side of the church of the Holy Annunciation there was a church of St. Nuncijata from 1680. In the Homeland war the church did not sustain significant damage, and in its vicinity you can find the museum with valuable icons of saints and the premises of the Serbian Orthodox municipality of Dubrovnik.
