The Pejačević Family Manor dates back to the 19th century and is located in the western part of Osijek, in Retfala. The Pejačević family had a major role in the social and cultural development not only of Osijek and Slavonia, but also the entire Croatia. A prominent member of the family was Dora Pejačević who became famous as the first female composer in the country. Apart from the art of music, the Pejačević family had a major role in the Croatian political life, acting as prime ministers. The fact that this is one of the three existing manors in Slavonia speaks of their influence in the cultural life of Croatia. The manor has baroque – classicist elements, and you can find out what it looked like in the past if you read Marija Jurić Zagorka’s book The Knight of the Slavonian blood.
