Pile Gate (Dubrovnik)
At the city entrance you will see the city gate and above it the statue of St. Blasius, patron saint of Dubrovnik. You can reach the gate by a stone and wooden drawbridge. The Pile gate is the western entrance to the old town of Dubrovnik. The gate was built on the site of the eponymous fort from 972. The outside part of the gate was built in 1573. To reach the door, you have to go over the stone bridge on three arches, with stone benches along the fence, which was built by the city engineer, Paskoje Milićević in 1471. The inside part of the gate was built in 1460.
