- The Ploče Gates
The Ploče Gates (Dubrovnik)
The Ploče Gates are situated in the part of the city called Ploče, which they were named after. The outside gate was built in 1450, but the arch bridge was built a year earlier. The Gates were built by Simon della Cava. The inside gate was built in the Romanesque style and above it you can see the figure of St. Blasius, the patron saint of Dubrovnik. There is a movable wooden bridge in front of the outside door. The Pile Gates were built following the same concept. The Revelin Fort located near the Gates used to be a part of the city’s defense system. If you are a fan of Romanesque architecture, you should definitely visit this site.
