Joakim Rakovac Monument and Square
Joakim Rakovac is one of the most important people in Croatian history and a prominent partisan, the Istrian anti-fascist or national hero. Today, almost every Istrian town has a bank, a street or a square named after the leader of Istrian antifascists, Joakim Rakovac. Thus, the main square in the town of Poreč, as a beautiful Istrian town, is adorned with his monument. Rakovac became a legend due to his actions and activities in order to encourage citizens to revolt and his limitless energy and commitment to work. Likewise, he wished for the Croats and Italians in Istria to be equal and become a paragon of an honest fighter who fought for freedom of the people and is therefore called a national hero.
