- Small Governor’s Tower
Small Governor’s Tower
Like the Great Governor’s Tower, the Small Governor’s Tower was built in 1499. It was also part of the city’s defence system – both towers were built to protect the Governor’s Palace. Located directly behind the Great Governor’s Tower, it is cylindrical in shape and is slightly higher than the great tower. It has three cannon openings and ends with the crown on top. In the past, on the tower’s top there was a parapet, leaning on the big consoles. The consoles and the breastworks’ arches were not renovated. On the tower there is a plaque with the coat of arms of Duke F. Loredan. The tower was built by Governor Lombardo and was named the Lombardo Tower after him. The coat of arms of Governor Lombardo is carved on one side of the tower.
