South Town Gate
South Town Gate
The south of the city keeps a part of the walls of two towers dating from the 12th and 13th century. Considered to be the work of Trifun Bokonić, the Porta civitatis is a huge Renaissance wooden gate, reinforced with pins, preserved from 1593. Along the east side of the gate there was a small dorm called “Loggia” used by travellers who arrived after the gate’s closing – here they could rest and wait until morning to enter the town. Recently, a gallery and souvenir shop were opened there.
