St. Christopher – Patron of Rab
St. Christopher is the patron of the island of Rab, as well as of the city of the same name, whose monument is located at the Rab Cathedral. During the Middle Ages numerous churches and municipal institutions had pictures and statues of St. Christopher, since it was thought that the person who views the saint can travel and would not die on his travells. After death, certain parts of the body of St. Christopher ended up in churches along the coast as relics, while the saint’s skull is in Rab in a gilded coffin. May 25 every year is celebrated as the day of St. Christopher, that is one of the most important feast on the island. The feast ends with a crossbow competition.
