- St. Flora Gate
St. Flora Gate
When walking around town, go through the St. Flora gates. St. Flora was a saint to whom a chapel, once located above the gate, was dedicated. The gate was built around 1589 and decorated in the baroque style. Above the gate you can see the current coat of arms of the town of Labin and the Venetian lion holding an open book. According to the legend, if the book is opened, the city surrendered without a fight, but if the book is closed, the town fought to the end. Historically, the gate was closed overnight, and was guarded by two guards. On the right side you can see the former Labin coat of arms, made in mosaic.
