- St. Peter Church
The Church of St. Peter
Folk tales have it that the church was founded by Queen Mary, wife of Hungarian King Bela IV during his stay in Trogir in 1242. The church initially belonged to the Benedictine nunnery. In the 17th century, it was upgraded in the Baroque style. The inner nave is adorned with Baroque marble altars with Baroque wooden sculptures of St. Peter and Paul. The altars are dedicated to the Virgin Mary and St. Ignjac Loyola. The church has an interesting wooden 18th century coffering ceiling, divided into semi-oval, oval and hexagonal boxes decorated with molded frames. Above the main entrance there is the bust of St. Peter, an artwork of Nicholas of Florence. On the church’s pavement there are tombstones of the Ćipiko and Andreis families. The church also keeps the Baroque organ, which was the gift of sisters Kamila and Andrijana Marković, noblewomen from Budva.
