Synagogue and Museum
The Old Synagogue in Dubrovnik is the oldest Sephardic synagogue still in use today. It was built in 1408 thanks to the Jews who came from Spain to Dubrovnik during the prosecution. Jews got engaged in trade and quickly adapted into the society of Dubrovnik. The synagogue can be found in Žuidska Street, which had a sign that indicated the beginning of the Jewish fourth at its gates. During the earthquake in 1667, the synagogue was severely damaged. Today it houses ritual objects from the 16th and 18th century which were kept in a secret place during World War II, as well as the Torah.
