Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the monastery and Malacological Museum
During your stay in Makarska, be sure to visit the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary dating from the 15th century, when the Franciscans arrived in Makarska. Throughout history, the church was damaged several times, but it kept its original appearance thanks to the Franciscans. Within the church there is a monastery and the Malacological museum. Founded by Fr. Jure Radić, in the museum you can see a collection of shells gathered by Fr. Franja Carev. Apart from shells, in the museum you can also see a herbarium of plant species of the Biokovo and Adriatic regions. The museum was open to public in 1963 and has since been visited by a large number of tourists.
