The National Archive
The need for education in the mother tongue had paid off and in 1899 the Imperial and Royal State Grammar School was established. Today, this important building represents the home of the State Archive of Pazin which was established in 1958 as the Istrian Archive – Pazin. Istria is famous for its preservation of archives in the times as early as the 14th century, which can still be seen in various statutes belonging to Istrian cities and municipalities. Even before that, the wish existed to establish a Regional Archives of the National Parliament of Markgraviate Istria in Poreč, but the plan did not come to life. The Contemporary National Archives presents an archival institution that performs four basic functions of each archives – the collection, processing, storage and protection of archives of the Istria County and the material is considered to be one of the richest archives, not only in Croatia, but internationally as well.
