The Red Lake
The Red Lake
The Red Lake is an interesting karstic phenomenon, which is situated about 1,5 km west of Imotski. It was named after its formidable red-coloured cliffs and was created because of the collapse of the cave dome caused by the dissolution of limestone rocks. The Red Lake is the deepest lake in Europe, the depth of which at times reaches up to 287 m. The legend of the Gavan Palace is linked to the formation of this lake. According to the legend, above the lake was a palace that collapsed into the ground and thus a lake was formed.
