- Three Wells Square
Three Wells Square
The square of three wells was originally formed in the Middle Age when the Venetians living in the northern part of the Peninsula built a fortress with a moat. Around 1570, a water tank was built over the canal, with three wells on top of it and that is how the square got its. Soon after that, the Church of Our Lady of Health was built close by. Still, only after the construction of the New Theatre in 1865 did this part of the city become more important. After that, they built a garden with Mediterranean trees and plants between the two sites. The road that was built between the park and a water tank unfortunately took away the look of a square and the wells became slightly forgotten.
