The Town Belfry
The Town Belfry and the City Guard Building (Dubrovnik)
The Town Belfry and the City Guard Building are situated at the beginning of Stradun. The Town Belfry was built in 1444. The main bell was cast by Ivan Rabljanin in 1506. Due to damages that had been caused by the earthquake and the possibility of collapsing, the Belfry was rebuilt in 1929 and the old bells were replaced by replicas, while the original bells were moved to the Sponza Palace. The City Guard Building is situated next to the Belfry and dates back to the 15th century. It was restored in the twentieth century, with the Baroque façade by Marin Gropelli from the 18th century being preserved.
