In the magical city on the mountain, Motovun, near the Parish church of St. Stephen a famous well from the 15th century is located. Below Andrea Antico Square there is a large tank which provided the village with water through two wells. There is a well in the northern part of the market and one below the castle. The well from the northern part of the square is marked by Motovun’s coat of arms, consisting of five towers and St. Mark’s lion. The well located below the castle is the oldest one in Motovun, dating from the 14th century. The well is important because it contains the oldest representation of the city on the mountain which at the time contained only one wall band and one tower.
