Vestibule
Vestibule
Vestibule was the lobby or the entrance hall to Diocletian’s residence. The residential part of the palace was entered through it from the Peristyle. From the outside, it has a square floor plan, and from the inside a circular floor plan. The niches hold various sculptures. On its top is a dome with sparkly mosaic colors. The medieval city district with the remains of the oldest early Romanesque house from the 10th century, which is interpolated into a newly built hotel called Vestibul, is located nearby. The Ethnographic Museum is located in the former Church of St. Andrew which was built in the 7th century on the site of the royal chambers. In the western part of the palace there was a library and next to the emperor’s chambers there was a spa.
