Monument to Victims of the Homeland War
The memorial dedicated to the fallen Croatian Homeland War veterans in the area of Osijek and its surroundings is located on Freedom Square. The project was initiated in 2003, and authored by famous Zagreb architects Maja Furlan Zimmermann, Koraljka Brebić and Mirko Buvinić. Since the monument was made in memory of the victims of the Homeland War, the architects’ idea was that the sheetings take the color of blood. Since they are constructed of steel that changes color, a period of seven years was predicted. In this way, the memorial would reflect the symbolism of its purpose. But even after more than seven years, the citizens are not satisfied with its design, which is often referred to as “radiators”.
