Betnava Castle (Maribor-Slovenia)
The Betnava castle was built in the 14th century and was owned by the earls of Betnava. It was originally distinguished by its Renaissance style and defence canal and four towers, but later became an Orthodox chapel with a graveyard. The castle burned down in the 17th century and was later renewed in the late Baroque firentina style. The castle houses the Maribor archdiocese museum, which has been adorned by English style garden from the 19th century. Archeological remains point out that this area was inhabited during the Prehistoric Period, whereas some writings mention the underground White city. A forest is situated nearby the castle. It is the perfect place for relaxation, trekking, jogging and other recreational activities. This area is also known by its apiculture. Namely, You can here find a bee store where You can see bee hives and try delicious honey.
