Bishop’s palace
Bishop’s palace
The centre of the Krk diocese is located opposite the cathedral. It is believed that the diocese was established around the 5th century, but it was first mentioned in 1133 as the place of the prince, the bishop and the town administration. Until the middle of the 12th century it belonged to the archdiocese of Split, and then it fell under the archdiocese of Zadar. Until 1828 there were three dioceses, Krk, Rab and Osor, after which all three fell under the diocese of Krk. Today the islands Krk, Cres, Lošinj, Rab and the northern part of Pag are under the diocese of Krk.
